What You Should Know About Phentermine

What Are Phentermine Diet Pills?

In the simplest of terms, phentermine is a weight loss medication. It is essentially a diet pill that is used to aid in weight loss and treat chronic obesity.

Phentermine diet pills are usually prescribed as an appetite suppressant for those who are at a high risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. The diet pill basically helps curb your appetite and makes you feel fuller for extended periods. However, it must be used with a proper exercise plan to be completely useful and effective. Phentermine is one of the few appetite suppressants that have been approved by the FDA. It cannot be considered as the ideal alternative for a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Phentermine is essentially a weight loss aid and works in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise. If prescribed, you should use this pill as an opportunity to restructure your life into a healthy way of living, eliminating and changing your bad habits. Phentermine can be used short-term as an aid to weight-loss in addition to exercise, behavioral modification, and calorie restriction.

Phentermine initially received approval from the FDA in 1959 and is now sold under various different brand names including Adipex-P. The pill is either available for consumption in capsule or tablet form.

How does Phentermine work?

Phentermine plays an instrumental role in directing the brain to stimulate the adrenal glands to produce norepinephrine. Norepinephrine serves as a neurotransmitter that is responsible for signaling a fight-or-flight response, in turn, reducing hunger. In addition to that, the pill also helps release dopamine and serotonin, helping produce a satiating effect and suppressing/minimizing cravings.

Phentermine also works exceptionally well at releasing adrenaline, stimulating and directing the body and mind to be more efficient, effective, and alert, thereby increasing concentration and energy levels. In a nutshell, phentermine is a central nervous stimulant.

Are there any side effects?

Every prescription has the possibility for side effects. Phentermine is no different. Some of the most commonly reported side effects of Phentermine are constipation, nausea, restlessness, psychosis, rash, sexual dysfunction, dry mouth, gastrointestinal disturbances, insomnia, dizziness, headaches, high blood pressure and other adverse cardiovascular effects etc. Although some may experience the aforementioned side effects for a short period, others may experience severe effects for a longer term and even require medical assistance.

It is also possible for Phentermine to interact with other medications and herbal supplements.  You should tell you doctor if you are taking antipsychotics, antidepressants, anti-diabetic drugs, or other central nervous system stimulants.
