Knowing the right things to do when on a diet can not only help you lose weight, but it also helps you to stay healthy too. When people diet, they tend to forget the fact that dieting does not mean you starve yourself the whole day, it actually means you have to start eating right and planning your meals.

Here are some tips that can help you plan your diet the right way:

1.     Don’t starve yourself

Starving yourself is never the way to go when you want to lose weight. When you starve the body, it tends to store more fat than needed every time you have a next meal. This is a defense mechanism that the body has in case a person is put in a situation without food for a period of time.

Having meals low in calories is necessary for weight loss. If you are hungry, you should eat.  For a snack, you could replace your normal bag of chips with a fruit salad. This will help to keep you full and not eat excess calories. Weight loss experts recommend at least six meals a day with sensible proportions and high protein.

2.     Have a breakfast that keeps you full for longer

The old line, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is taken for granted these days. Breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, Having a breakfast that keeps you full for longer is a better option than a sugary cereal.  A full breakfast will keep you from eating the wrong things at the wrong time.

Try having two boiled eggs and oatmeal in the morning.  This healthy breakfast option is high in protein and low in calories.  Our office staff can help provide you with suggestions for good breakfast meals that are delicious and help you stay trimmed.

3.     Avoid or switch bread

White bread is extremely high in carbs, so it is better to avoid it at all times. If you love bread and cannot live without it, switch to whole grain breads which are low in fat and are better for your digestive system.

4.     Say no to fizz

We never take fizzy drinks seriously and enjoy them every time we feel hot or thirsty.  However, fizzy drinks are a major cause of obesity in the US. The amount of sugar content present in them is harmful for the body.

Try switching fizzy drinks to healthy smoothies.

Here’s one that you can make easily:

  • Take 1.5 cup of 1% low fat milk
  • 1 frozen banana chopped to slices
  • 1 cup spinach chopped in little pieces
  • 2 table spoons of old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 table spoon ground flax seed

Blend these until smooth, throw in a straw and enjoy! This is a meal and a drink combined in one to keep you full and away from the fizz.

5.     Drink enough water

Having a good diet plan without having enough water to drink is not going to work. We recommend you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. People who drink more water tend to lose more weight than those who don’t. Plus, it is good for your skin and a natural mood booster!
