We focus on food a lot around here. We have to, of course, for obvious reasons – eating too much of the wrong kinds of food plays a primary role in making us unfit, unhealthy, and as a result, unhappy.
When most folks come visit us here at Mediplan Diet Services, they are, as a rule, primarily concerned with one over-riding goal: to lose weight.
We’re happy to try and help them do just that.
But we hope the end result of our work with our client is something a little bigger, more over-arching and ultimately life-changing.
We want to help people live a healthier lifestyle.
Part of that is helping them create a food and diet plan filled with heathy, nutritious food.
So, yes. We focus on food quite a lot around here. But for a moment, my focus today will be less on low-cal entrees or low-fat desserts, but on healthy foods that combat the aging process.
Why?
Because looking and feeling good are important parts of a healthy lifestyle.
Oats
Complex carbohydrates like oats are low-glycemic, meaning that they don’t spike your blood sugar like refined breads, rice, and pasta can. High-glycemic foods are known to cause acne and wrinkles.
Oranges
These are loaded with water, so they hydrate your skin and your cells. One large orange is an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps make collagen — and that, in turn, helps keep your skin supple.
Avocados
Avocados are filled with a healthy type of fat, monounsaturated fat, which helps your skin stay hydrated. That same healthy fat can also help you absorb some vitamins and nutrients that your skin needs.
Brussels Sprouts
These are an excellent source of the skin-friendly vitamins A and C, as well as folate.
Their vitamin C promotes collagen. And while you still need to use sun protection, vitamin A and folate may help prevent sun damage.
Salmon
This fish is one of the best ways to get healthy omega-3 fats in your diet. Recent studies have suggested that omega-3s, especially from fish, may keep skin cancer cells from growing and spreading.
Try it! Eating for your health means more than low-calorie foods. The younger you look and feel, the more energy you’ll have to stay active – which only helps you find more success on your weight loss journey!
