In this business, we hear a variation of the phrase “losing weight is hard” every single day. And there’s a reason for that.

It really can be.

How much water is the right amount of water?

Stop counting and start drinking. If you always have a glass or an open bottle of water within arm’s reach, then you’re probably in good shape.

Here are some other benefits:

  • A cool bottle of water first thing in the morning will kick start your metabolism.
  • A glass of water before your meal can help you eat less at that meal.
  • A properly hydrated body burns calories more efficiently.

#2 Avoid Soda

This tip dovetails nicely with the previous one. If you always have a bottle of water on your desk at work, you are less likely to visit the soda machine.

And that’s a good thing.

Non-diet sodas are packed with sugars and a waste of empty calories that you could spend on a delicious meal or healthy snack between meals. Diet sodas are certainly lower in calories and are a better choice when you simply need that fizzy fix, but try your best to enjoy them in moderation.

Grandma always told you it’s the most important meal of the day – and she meant it. A smaller plate filled with modest portions will still appear to be a lot of food, right? Try it – especially after drinking that pre-meal glass of water.

Look, I realize it’s a mental game we’re playing against ourselves, here. But come on, I’ve been guilty of fooling myself in much worse ways that this. Like thinking I looked okay in those floral print yoga pants.

#5 Do it For YOU

Losing weight because someone else wants you to will almost never work.
